Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital has introduced VISX Star S4, an advanced laser technology available in the market today for the treatment of near sightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, in the city. This laser system will be used to perform refractive procedures like PRK/LASIK that provide patients with high-precision and glass-free vision at affordable costs. As part of the installation, the hospital is offering complimentary Lasik evaluation till April 15, 2024.
Honourable Mayor of Kochi, Mr. M. Anil Kumar participated in the launch function as the Chief Guest, while councillors: Ms. Padmaja S. Menon and Mr. Sakeer Thammanam took part as Guests of Honour.
VISX Star S4 has in-built excimer laser technology. Excimer is a form of ultraviolet laser. In ophthalmology, it is used to reshape the corneal tissue. VISX delivers laser beams at utmost precision and supports procedures like PRK/LASIK and superior techniques like WAVEFRONT-guided LASIK. It enables patients to achieve Glass free vision in a matter of a few seconds.
In her comments, Dr Sanjana P, consultant ophthalmologist and cornea, refractive & cataract surgeon, Dr. Agarwals Eye Hospital, Kochi, said, “Laser techniques are used to correct refractive errors, such as myopia (near-sightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) or astigmatism (uneven focusing). The laser eye surgery procedures use laser beams to reshape the cornea so as to make the light entering into the eyes fall on the retina properly for clearer vision. The key part about laser technology is that it continues to evolve and improve. VISX laser machine is at the forefront of laser technological developments. VISX Star S4, the latest advancement, facilitates quicker treatments through variable beam technology that enables our doctors to tailor laser beam sizes and shapes to each patient’s visual requirements.”
With the inaugural of Corneal Transplant unit at Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital in Kochi ,it plans to restore vision in patients suffering from corneal blindness using state of art diagnostics for early corneal disease diagnosis, as well as advanced surgical methods such as PDEK, (a surgery used to treat problems with the back layer of the cornea called the endothelium), with the support of the Corneal Eye Bank of the hospital’s Chennai centre, which facilitates cornea donation and provides high quality , early accessible Cornea tissues for transplant, Dr Agarwal’s eye hospital intends to revolutionise Corneal transplantation in Kerala.
